Job Opening – Heavy Diesel Mechanic

Locations Available: Blenheim, Christchurch, Cromwell, Dunedin, Gore

Do you have a passion for working with big engines? Love getting your hands dirty and have a knack for problem-solving?

We’re looking for positive people who are passionate about working on heavy diesel vehicles, and will fit in with our close knit fleet.

As a diesel mechanic you’ll inspect, service, and maintain a diverse range of light & heavy vehicles, trailers, and other components and systems to a safe and excellent standard.

  • Trade certification or nearing the end of certification.
  • Good ability diagnosing faults. Experience with diagnostic equipment (JAL test) would be an advantage but not essential as training will be provided.
  • DAF and Kenworth experience would be a huge advantage but not essential.
  • Experience in looking after a fleet would be ideal but not essential.
  • Demonstrate a passion for working on heavy diesel vehicles.
  • A positive work ethic with the ability to work as part of a team and independently.

The successful applicant will have well-established experience in the Heavy Vehicle service industry or even maybe a Foreman/Diesel Mechanic that is looking to take the next step in their career.

Job Opening – Diesel Technician

Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out repairs on commercial vehicles according to procedures and in a timely safe manner
  • Carrying out fault diagnosis
  • Reporting any faults/defects in accordance with the processes
  • Working together with the parts team to obtain the correct replacement parts and ensure they are fitted correctly
  • Completing relevant documents on the work you have completed including internal documents, customer documents and department of transport documents
  • Complying with all procedures ensuring accuracy and quality on all jobs

Skills and Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Vehicle Technician (preferably as an Heavy Truck Technician)
  • A full Driving Licence
  • A relevant Level 2/3 training qualifications (or equivalent) would be beneficial but is not essential
  • Excellent time keeping skills
  • To understand the importance of accuracy
  • To be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to plan ahead effectively and multi-task

Job Opening – Service Administrator

Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support
  • Provide support to customers over the phone and by email
  • Chase order numbers
  • Raise job cards
  • Send invoices and provide quotes to customers
  • To provide a high quality of written communication on work including our internal documents, customers documents and the department of transports documents.
  • Generate and take bookings for service and repairs
  • Ensure that the appointment register is kept up to date
  • Ensure that jobs carried over to the next day are carried forward
  • Ensure that the best possible information is recorded and included on the job card
  • Keep customers updated on jobs
  • Organise efficient collection and delivery of vehicles to minimise downtime
  • Check through previous nights job cards, contact customers with a full update on work carried out and any outstanding defects.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Ability to plan ahead effectively and multi task
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced environment
  • Good customer facing skills is essential
  • Previous experience within the motor industry
  • Previous experience delivering excellent administration and customer service is essential.
  • Previous experience with Kerridge is preferred
  • Full driving licence is preferred

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  •  To provide an accurate and professional parts sales and identification service
  • To utilise the tools available to promote and encourage growth of the parts business
  • To ensure a quick and efficient response to customer and depot requirements
  • To maintain a tidy and professional appearance and portray a professional attitude at all times
  • Gather market and customer information and pass to the Parts Supervisor/Manager/Business Development team
  • Previous parts advisor experience in the motor trade is essential for this role and commercial vehicle knowledge would be ideal, but right candidate would receive full training.
  • As part of a great team, our Parts Advisors are key to the relationships we have with our client base ad to the success of our business.

The Job

Transport Repairs are offering Heavy Automotive – Road Transport (Diesel Mechanic), Auto Electrical and Part Interpreter Apprenticeships across the South Island starting 24 January 2022. We are looking for keen, motivated individuals who seek a long and rewarding career in the heavy automotive industry. Diesel Mechanics, Auto Electricians and Parts Interpreters are in very short supply world-wide and will continue to be trades that is in high demand. Completing an Apprenticeship sets you up for life in a career that grows with you and offers great opportunities with variety and locations.

 We have Diesel Mechanic Apprentice roles in all locations, Electricians in Gore and Cromwell and Parts Interpreter in Gore.

Is this you?

To be eligible we seek applicants with…

  • New Zealand Citizenship or Permanent Residency that are currently in the country
  • NCEA Level 2 (or international equivalent) English and Maths
  • Proficient in Science subjects
  • Completion of an Automotive pre-employment course would be highly valued but not essential
  • Work experience with Transport Repairs or similar automotive / engineering workshop would be highly valued but not essential
  • Adult applicants with technical or trade experience are welcome
