Job Opening – Transport Engineer

Locations Available:  Christchurch

Transport Repairs Ltd is a well known & trusted brand and is an industry leader when it comes to servicing and repairs on heavy vehicles and with 7 workshops around the South Island, we provide a specialist service at competitive rates and get the job right first time with minimal downtime for our customers.

Due to operational requirements we are looking for a full time Transport Engineer Fabricator Welder to come join our team at our Dunedin based workshop, if this is something you have experience in and you are passionate about trucks, trailers and plant please get in touch and talk to us about this exciting new opportunity.

Are you a trade qualified Fitter Welder/Fabricator or have vast experience?

  • Do you have extensive experience in a heavy transport/engineering environment?
  • Gain exposure to top of the line heavy truck and trailer units in a busy workshop

 

As a Heavy Transport Engineer you will be responsible for the engineering repairs and maintenance to trucks and trailers, rectifying COF repairs on Trucks and Trailers, Skid plates and general fabrication work.

You will be safety conscious and be comfortable operating to a high standard of health and safety.

To be successful in this role, you must have the following:

  • Trade Qualification in Fabrication or Fitting & Welding or have a number of years experience in a similar role.
  • Welding tickets or the ability to pass these tests.
  • Able to confidently complete a trade test.
  • Experience working in a heavy transport environment.
  • Truck License would be advantageous or the ability to complete up to class 5.
  • Available to work Monday – Friday with over time when required and take part in rostered Saturdays.

  • NCEA Level 2 (or international equivalent) English and Maths

  • Work experience with Transport Repairs or similar automotive / engineering workshop would be highly valued but not essential
  • Adult applicants with technical or trade experience are welcome

The Job:
Transport Repairs are in search for a workshop service manager. You will lead a team of mechanics/apprentices and run the workshop on a day to day basis. We have a modern workshop and an extremely busy workload to get through so if you are that type of manager that still wants to get the overalls on and get on the floor when required then we want to hear from you. You will need to be a qualified diesel mechanic.

Key duties:

  • Willing to put the overalls back on when required to help the workshop out.
  • Managing an efficient and professional service operation.
  • Building and maintaining customer relations to provide a strong service focus to our valued customers.
  • Identifying and capturing new opportunities for both Sales and Aftersales departments.
  • Looking for continuous improvement in all areas of the operation.
  • Excellent communication & time management.
  • DAF and Kenworth experience would be a huge advantage but not essential.
  • Proven Organisational & Technical skills to manage and coach a productive and efficient team.
  • Understands and practices good work flow process.
  • Effective customer communication capabilities.

Job Opening – Diesel Technician

Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out repairs on commercial vehicles according to procedures and in a timely safe manner
  • Carrying out fault diagnosis
  • Reporting any faults/defects in accordance with the processes
  • Working together with the parts team to obtain the correct replacement parts and ensure they are fitted correctly
  • Completing relevant documents on the work you have completed including internal documents, customer documents and department of transport documents
  • Complying with all procedures ensuring accuracy and quality on all jobs

Skills and Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Vehicle Technician (preferably as an Heavy Truck Technician)
  • A full Driving Licence
  • A relevant Level 2/3 training qualifications (or equivalent) would be beneficial but is not essential

  • Send invoices and provide quotes to customers
  • To provide a high quality of written communication on work including our internal documents, customers documents and the department of transports documents.
  • Generate and take bookings for service and repairs
  • Ensure that the appointment register is kept up to date
  • Ensure that jobs carried over to the next day are carried forward
  • Ensure that the best possible information is recorded and included on the job card

  • Organise efficient collection and delivery of vehicles to minimise downtime
  • Check through previous nights job cards, contact customers with a full update on work carried out and any outstanding defects.

  • Previous experience within the motor industry

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  •  To provide an accurate and professional parts sales and identification service
  • To utilise the tools available to promote and encourage growth of the parts business
  • To ensure a quick and efficient response to customer and depot requirements
  • To maintain a tidy and professional appearance and portray a professional attitude at all times
  • Gather market and customer information and pass to the Parts Supervisor/Manager/Business Development team
  • Previous parts advisor experience in the motor trade is essential for this role and commercial vehicle knowledge would be ideal, but right candidate would receive full training.
  • As part of a great team, our Parts Advisors are key to the relationships we have with our client base ad to the success of our business.
